There was a huge gathering this time. We followed the same path as the first sketchcrawl and it was amazing. Alot of hoofing involved and admittedly I spent more time doing that than sketching, but I managed a few pics. Enrico and Ronnie did an amazing job coordinating the event (as usual). To that end I sat down and made of list of all of my ideas, and my goals and then prioritized them. I found this to be invaluable and with it, came up with a rough schedule for the year. I'm back again. I took a bit of a hiatus while I struggled to play catch up at work, but I just couldn't stay away. I thought I'd drop another post in here just because I got all misty eyed looking at the same tired old blog entry for weeks upon weeks. I haven't been able to do too much aside from work these days, but one of the things I've been doing is watching a bunch of tv shows on DVDs. Well actually just one in particular. The Wire. I can't say enough good things about this show. I LOVE IT! The show is so compelling, the characters so three dimensional I'd go so far as to say it's one of the best shows I've seen on TV... period! Now this is of course my humble opinion, you're more than free to disagree, but if you haven't seen it, check it out. I borrowed all 3 seasons from my friend and I've been GLUED to my television. I've finished them all in a little over a week and I'm dying to see more. It's a show that makes me think... about a lot of things. Watch it!

</rss:item><rss:item rdf:about="http://thedoghouse.squarespace.com/journal/2006/12/12/sketchcrawl-sketches.html"><rss:title>Sketchcrawl sketches</rss:title><rss:link>http://thedoghouse.squarespace.com/journal/2006/12/12/sketchcrawl-sketches.html</rss:link>

<dc:subject></dc:subject>

A few sketches I produced at the crawl.

</rss:item><rss:item rdf:about="http://thedoghouse.squarespace.com/journal/2006/12/11/sketchcrawl.html"><rss:title>Sketchcrawl</rss:title><rss:link>http://thedoghouse.squarespace.com/journal/2006/12/11/sketchcrawl.html</rss:link>

<dc:subject></dc:subject>

So I attended my first Sketchcrawl... FINALLY! I've been trying to check one of the out for about as long as I've know about them. (And I've known about them almost as long as they've been held!) Something always seemed to pop up, or my schedule never seemed to match. Well I'm glad I did it, because even tho' it was kinda rainy and cold, it was a lot of fun. I got a few decent sketches and I hung out with a lot of cool people. One of the best part was trading sketchbooks at the end. There's a lot of talented people out there. (I was particularly blown away by Ronnie's and Emma's sketchbook. Whoo man!) I'll definitely be doing this again. Thanks Enrico for hooking this up. Right now, production on Ratatouille has got me pretty tied up as far as animation goes. By the time I get back from work I'm way too fried to try and animate for another few hours. Drawing on the other hand isn't a problem. Many of you that know me, know I've been trying to get into story for some time with mixed results. So right now I'm really focused on honing my storytelling skills. With that in mind, I've asked to do a piece for the upcoming Afterworks 3. I'm hoping that I can find enough time to contribute something cool. I've got a story, now I've just got to sit down and get it on paper. In the meantime, I'm shelving Bad Karma until around April. I'm hoping that I'll have more time to give my short the proper attention it deserves. Currently I've been in a bit of a rut. I'm running around like a tiger chasing my tail. There are so many things that I'd love to be able to do/work on. I've got a host of crazy stories and ideas dancing around my head. The problem is that I want to be able to persue them all... but that's impossible. The cycle looks something like this... I get a "great" idea. I get super jazzed about it and I start developing it. Somewhere along the line I get another "great" idea even greater and more interesting than the last one, and I start to persue that. I get the mistaken idea in my head that I can actually work on both ideas but inevitably I start to lose interest (and momentum) on one of the ideas. This about the time I get ANOTHER "great" idea"... you can see where this is going. I try to chase all my ideas around and then I get so frustrated I end up not getting anything done... What am I missing...

Check the title of this post... Focus. Start an idea. Work on it. Finish it. Work on the next one. That's the goal from here on out. What does that mean? Well it means I'm going to have to cut back on alot of the projects I've got cooking. I'm going to have to shelf some, abandon others, and really push forward on the ones I choose. I've decided that I can successfully manage 2 projects at one time (between that and work). The most important thing right now it to analyse my goals, pick 2 projects that will lead me towards that goal, and execute them. I'll be sharing a bit of that progress right now. I'm putting this out there as a way of "formally" challenging myself... in front of a huge international audience... so it's official now.
